I always meet the nicest people when I'm painting in front of Victorian Summer Gallery on Mackinac Island. Last Saturday Lily Wagner stopped by with her parents all the way from Findlay, Ohio. Lily is an artist too, and has had two of her paintings exhibited at a museum in her hometown. It was fun talking to the Wagners, one of many families who were enjoying the day on the island. By the end of the day I had finished five small framed paintings of Mackinac Island scenes like the ones shown here: Sailing Past Round Island and Arch Rock. If you're on the island on August 8 please stop by the gallery (corner of Market and Cadotte Streets) and watch me paint. I'd love to meet you!

One of the most fun things I’ve done all year is to paint a huge (4’x4’) canvas with my grandsons for
Ottawa Park, an outdoor art park in Cheboygan, Michigan. The theme for this competition was sports.
Cooper (10) designed the canvas, I outlined it, and Rudi (8), Cooper, and I all worked together to paint it.
The development of the painting was interesting: any idea that one of us had was expanded upon by the
others to create a wonderful end result.
It’s so much fun to watch young creative minds at work! If you’re in Cheboygan, go past the corner of US23 and Main Street to see our canvas along with other works of art in our local drive-by art gallery!

What fun I had painting in front of Victorian Summer Gallery on beautiful Mackinac Island last Saturday, July 11! You can see by the flag how windy it was--my little paintings were blowing all over. My watercolors dried very quickly--it was a challenge to keep the paint moist enough to do the next step.
The shirt I'm wearing was plain white last year before I made brushstrokes on the shirt one day instead of on my paper. I painted geraniums on top of the misplaced paint so now I have a true "paint shirt."

SUNSETS AT STONECLIFFE: A Celebration of Acoustic Music and Art
On July 8 I was the featured artist. I painted for two hours to the soothing background guitar music of Pato Margetic--very inspiring! A crowd of nearly 50 was on hand to watch and talk with me about my painting and book, Mackinac Island Meditations, a collection of my artwork and accompanying devotions.
SUNSETS AT STONECLIFFE is an ongoing Wednesday evening event for the month of July at the serene resort on beautiful Mackinac Island. Come watch the sun set and join the fun!
