UPCOMING EVENTS

The Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk (September 6, 2010) brings upwards of 50,000 people to the little village of Mackinaw City. Will you be one of them?

It’s amazing to hear stories of folks who trek the seven mile span between St. Ignace and Mackinaw City year after year. I’ve done it twice and it’s an event to remember, but this year I’ll be painting the bridge instead of walking on it. You can view seven bridge designs on my website on my galleries page.

CURRENT PROJECTS

Fall is fast approaching! I’m working on more paintings that feature the gorgeous colors of our autumn trees in northern Michigan. Look for earlier designs on my website.

FEATURED ARTIST
My stint as featured artist last month for Sunsets at Stonecliffe was so much fun. I met lots of nice people and ended up spending time with a charming boy and girl who asked me to paint Round Island Lighthouse (I paint this often) and Pink Princess Barbie (what?!).

As you can see in the photo, Lydia absolutely took over my painting station. It was great watching her creatively use my paints and brushes as her brother Angus coached me along in the painting of his lighthouse. I always learn something from every child who crosses my path, and these two taught me about how much fun it is to get lost in the process of painting.
FEED YOUR SOUL
As part of a “Feed My Soul” weekend I attended an exhibition of the Michigan Water Color Society at the Dennos Museum in Traverse City: unusual compositions, a mixture of abstract, realistic, and impressionistic art all done perfectly in vibrant colors that danced on the paper. Very inspiring!
Art shows in Traverse City, Bay Harbor, Charlevoix, and on Mackinac Island have filled my August days. Such fun to see the talented artists who live and work in Michigan!

The painting tea party I mentioned in my August newsletter was very special. Nineteen artists brought along our sketchbooks, palettes, and brushes; we painted sandwiches, chocolates and table service before eating our tea time treats. I’m now making up a tiny palette that will not be so cumbersome to use in case I decide to do this at other restaurants where this type of activity might be new to the servers.
IN THE NEWS
When I sent out my July newsletter, little did I know that it would be picked up by Ann Gildner, our local arts columnist, and used as a feature in the July 2 edition of the Cheboygan Daily Tribune. What a fun surprise! Thanks, Ann! Click here to read...
