CURRENT PROJECTS

Now that my studio is somewhat back to normal after construction in adjoining rooms, I am making the most of my time by working on new designs for Mackinac Island and the Grand Traverse/Leelanau area: beaches, boats, barns, cherries, and flowers. As I was painting this little garden basket I thought of my trip to France in September a few years back. If I ever go again, I’d like to make the trip in springtime…April in Paris would be charming!

PRESENTATIONS

During March, which was designated as READING MONTH throughout Michigan, I did my part to promote reading in the local schools. I was invited to speak to over 400 children in Kindergarten through fifth grade classes about how reading played such a vital role in my development as an author of three books. My favorite question came from a Kindergartner: “What would you do if you ran out of paper and you still had more story to tell?”

UPCOMING EVENTS

For the first time, I will be staying on Mackinac Island during three days of the Lilac Festival which is June 11-20. I am looking forward to taking in many of the events and painting on location. From November to May I paint in my studio using reference photos I’ve taken the previous summer, so painting en plein air (in the fresh air) is a real treat and something I look forward to after a long winter.

MACKINAC ISLAND MEDITATIONS makes a great gift for Mother’s Day! People are also telling me they use my book as a jumping off point for discussions in their small groups at church. Even though I did not win this year’s competition for the Writer’s Digest Annual International Self-Published Book Awards contest, which Judge #54 called “fierce,” here’s what he or she had to say about my book: “…remarkable artistic work. The pages are filled with colorful art and inspirational words of wisdom.” You may order the book through my website or email me directly: marylou@maryloupeters.com.

QUOTE FOR THE MONTH

“Love your soul,” is wisdom from a tea bag tag…I have no idea who said it, but it’s good advice for all of us. That’s why I occasionally take a “feed my soul” day and do something quiet or creative or out of the ordinary. As the days get longer and busier, I must remember to do that. It’s reviving!
